The OCU Synod has decided to establish the “Baturyn St. Nicholas–Krupytskyi Men’s Monastery.”

The OCU Synod has resolved to create a clone of the UOC’s Krupytskyi Monastery, from which the authorities at the beginning of 2026 expelled the nuns of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. This became known from the OCU Synod decision dated February 2, 2026.

To be formed within the Chernihiv Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Orthodox Church of Ukraine) is the religious organization “Baturyn St. Nicholas–Krupytskyi Men’s Monastery of the Chernihiv Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Orthodox Church of Ukraine),” the text states.

Dumenko appointed the local “bishop,” Antoniy Firley, as the monastery’s abbot.

As previously reported, on January 27, 2026, the authorities forced the nuns of the Krupytskyi St. Nicholas Monastery out onto the street. Their cells were sealed. Armed police are “guarding” the monastery from the nuns and parishioners. The authorities also took the sisters’ personal icons and their reliquary.
