Officials conduct “inspection” at UOC’s Myltsi monastery
Officials inspected all buildings of the St. Nicholas Monastery in Volyn and carried out what they described as “architectural measurements.”
A commission arrived at the UOC’s St. Nicholas Myltsi Monastery in Volyn with an inspection on February 26, 2026, according to sources cited by the Dozor Telegram channel.
Those sources say the head of the commission, Vasyl Haiduk, explained that the visit was aimed at “taking measurements of architectural structures.” Members of the commission reportedly went through all areas of the monastery – from churches to utility buildings and cellars – measuring the structures.
Witnesses say the officials behaved politely and showed no aggression. Haiduk spoke with the brotherhood and parishioners and, believers say, even responded to a parishioner’s suggestion to pray in the church. Answering questions, he said the collected documents would be forwarded to the regional military administration, after which the head of the RMA would make further decisions.
Parishioners asked the commission members to convey to regional leaders the need to extend the monastery’s lease agreement. They say the future of the brotherhood and of thousands of faithful who have prayed there for generations depends on that decision. Believers stress that the monastery was restored from ruins through the efforts and funds of parishioners.
Despite calls not to view the visit pessimistically, many Orthodox Christians regarded it as a troubling sign. In their view, the collected data could be used to prepare new technical documentation and later decisions to hand the monastery over to the OCU.
“But we should not forget that the master of this monastery is St. Nicholas,” UOC faithful said. “It is his monastery, and the final word will not be with people, but with the monastery’s heavenly patron.”
Earlier, the UOJ reported that MP Huz discussed with officials of the Volyn RMA the potential seizure of the UOC monastery in Myltsi.
