The Ukrainian president said that “people need an Easter without threats.”

On April 9, 2026, President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukraine was prepared to respond in kind after Russian President Vladimir Putin announced an Easter ceasefire.

According to Zelensky, “Ukraine has repeatedly said that we are ready for mirror steps.” In a post on his Telegram channel, he said Kyiv had previously proposed a ceasefire for the Easter holidays this year and “will act accordingly.”

Zelensky added that “people need an Easter without threats and real movement toward peace,” and that Russia now has “a chance not to return to strikes after Easter.”

Earlier the same day, Putin announced an Easter ceasefire that, according to the Kremlin’s terms as reported publicly, is to run from 4:00 p.m. on April 11 until the end of April 12.
