The Ternopil-Zboriv Archeparchy of the UGCC organized the second international conference on the history of the Pochaiv Monastery in Zarvanytsia, with scholars from three countries taking part.

The Pochaiv Lavra became the central topic of the “Second Pochaiv Readings,” an international scholarly forum held by the UGCC’s Ternopil-Zboriv Archeparchy on April 23–25, 2026, at its spiritual center in Zarvanytsia, the archeparchy’s website reports.

The forum was devoted to the history and legacy of the Pochaiv Basilian Monastery of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos, which existed during the Uniate period of the Pochaiv Lavra. UGCC Metropolitan Teodor Martyniuk stressed tha

t a special task today is “to shed light, with a scholarly approach, on the truth about the Pochaiv Lavra,” particularly those pages of its history that “for centuries were silenced or distorted.” Martyniuk also spoke of the need for “the search for historical truth and the restoration of one’s own spiritual roots.”

As the UOJ reported, UGCC representatives had earlier spoken about the possibility of “returning” the Pochaiv Lavra. The monastery belonged to the Greek Catholics in the 17th and 18th centuries and was transferred back to the Orthodox in 1831.
