In Nigeria, Islamists killed 28 Christians and a pastor
In Nigeria, Fulani militants attacked a Christian village, opening fire on people who tried to leave their homes.
On June 22, Fulani Islamists attacked the village of Kawel in the Bokkos district of Plateau State in Nigeria, killing 28 Christians, including Pastor Marcus Nyam, reports Christian Daily International.
According to local residents, the attack occurred at around 2 a.m. One eyewitness said that the militants opened fire on people who tried to leave their homes, and any sounds in the village drew the attackers' attention.
Residents also reported that telephone and telecommunications services were cut off during the attack, preventing people from calling law enforcement for help. According to an eyewitness, the attackers spoke in the Fulani and Hausa languages and called out the names of certain Christian leaders.
Among those killed was Pastor Marcus Nyam of the Church of Christ in Nations and members of his congregation. Church leaders in Bokkos confirmed his death and expressed condolences to his family, friends, and parishioners.
According to the 2026 World Watch List, Nigeria remains one of the most dangerous countries for Christians. The organization notes that attacks by Islamist groups and radical Fulani are most often directed against Christian farming communities in the central and northern parts of the country.
Previously, the SPJ reported that a Roman Catholic Church priest was killed in Sudan for exposing the theft of medicines intended for the poor.
