On May 15, 2026, the feast day of St. Athanasius, Patriarch of Constantinople and Wonderworker of Lubny and Kharkiv, Metropolitan Onufriy of Kharkiv and Bohodukhiv celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Annunciation Cathedral in Kharkiv, the eparchial press service reports.
Praying together with the Kharkiv hierarch were Metropolitan Vladimir of Kamianske and Tsarychanka and clergy of the UOC eparchy.
During the service, special prayers were offered for peace in Ukraine, the country’s defenders, internally displaced persons, and all those who are suffering.
At the end of the service, the clergy performed a glorification before the relics of St. Athanasius, which rest in the Annunciation Cathedral and are among Kharkiv’s main shrines.
St. Athanasius Patelarios was a 17th-century Patriarch of Constantinople. He spent the final years of his life on the territory of present-day Ukraine. After his death, his body remained incorrupt, and numerous healings took place at the saint’s relics. For this, the Church glorified him as the Wonderworker of Lubny and Kharkiv.
After the Liturgy, Metropolitan Onufriy thanked the clergy and faithful for their common prayer and congratulated everyone on the feast.
As the UOJ previously reported, the Kharkiv hierarch expressed condolences to those affected by the shelling of Merefa.
