“God on maximum vibes”: OCU renders Gospel in youth slang
An OCU cleric read a slang-filled version of the Gospel in which Christ calls on people to “love their haters and toxic people.”
The OCU-affiliated media platform Orthodox Easterners (Pravoslavni Skhidniaky) has released another “humorous” video featuring OCU cleric Dmytro Shapovalov reading a passage from the Gospel of Matthew rewritten in youth slang.
“If you only show respect to those who respect you, what reward do you get? Don’t even scammers do that? And if you only say hi to your homies, what’s so special about that? Don’t randoms do the same? So keep your vibes at max, just as your Heavenly Father’s vibes are at max,” reads the OCU’s slang version of Christ’s words from the Sermon on the Mount.
Not everyone online appreciated the humor.
“This sounds awful. For some reason, it immediately brings to mind casting pearls before swine,” one user commented on the video.
Another wrote: “Is it really worth bringing the elevated language of the Church down to the level of slang? I doubt it will help reach people’s hearts. It comes across as a parody.”
“Christ didn’t adapt Himself to others – they sought to imitate Him. Why not throw in some profanity while you’re at it? The audience would love that,” another viewer added.
The UOJ previously reported that the same OCU-affiliated platform had posted a video jokingly depicting the murder of an opponent.
