The Ukrainian state will celebrate the creation of a “Museum Town” on the site of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra by the Bolsheviks.

In 2026, Ukrainian authorities plan to solemnly celebrate the centenary of the destruction of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra monastery by the totalitarian Soviet regime. This is stated on the website of the Kyiv City State Administration.

The city council decision says that “with the aim of preserving Ukrainian national memory, consolidation and shaping the historical consciousness of Kyiv residents, and the proper commemoration and honoring of memorable dates and anniversaries,” the KCSA has decided to mark 100 years since the founding of the National Historical and Cultural Reserve “Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.”

Kyiv City Council deputy and head of the standing commission on culture, tourism, and public communications, Viktoriia Mukha, said she would await the anniversary celebration of the reserve’s creation by the Bolsheviks “with special reverence.” “This is about who we are, the price at which our freedom was fought for, and why today’s struggle is a continuation of the struggle of our ancestors,” Mukha said.

The celebrations will take place on September 29, 2026. On that day, the All-Ukrainian Central Executive Committee and the Council of People’s Commissars of the Ukrainian SSR adopted a resolution “On Recognizing the Former Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra as a Historical and Cultural State Reserve and Transforming It into an All-Ukrainian Museum Town.”

Earlier, the UOJ reported that the reserve had celebrated an anniversary of the Bolshevik seizure of the Lavra.
