Norwegian fund promoting LGBT allocated €1.5 million to Ukrainian journalists
NORAD, which actively finances LGBT organizations around the world, will direct €1.5 million to support Ukrainian media and civil society in 2026–2027.
The Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD), known for its large-scale financing of LGBT-organizations around the world, will allocate 1.5 million euros to support Ukrainian media and civil society structures. This was announced on her Facebook page by Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister for Humanitarian Affairs Tetyana Berezhna.
The announcement was made on June 28, 2026, at the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Gdansk (Poland) during a discussion panel titled "Recovery Under Attack: Protecting Trust, Media and Transparency from Russia's Cognitive Warfare." The funds will be distributed by the Institute for War and Peace Reporting (IWPR) — a partner organization of NORAD. The money is intended to strengthen independent journalism and media resilience of Ukrainian editorial offices.
Berezhna's post does not directly indicate that the money will go to journalists promoting gender and LGBT topics, but the NORAD website publishes materials about financial support for homosexuals in Ukraine.
Alongside media grants, NORAD is consistently increasing its financing of the LGBT agenda at the international level. In 2025, the agency additionally allocated 20 million Norwegian kroner to support LGBT organizations, and Norway's state budget for 2026 provides for another 12.4 million kroner for the same purposes. Among the recipients are the organizations FRI, Front Line Defenders, Outright International, and Synergia. According to NORAD's leadership, the program's goal is "protecting the very essence of human rights" through the visibility and protection of LGBT communities in various countries, including Ukraine.
As reported by SPZh, Volodymyr Zelensky expressed support for LGBT members, and a gay pride parade took place in Kyiv.
